World Cup
This is an ancient playground game, from my youth, with some adaptations.
- Describe an appropriate sized area around a proper goal.
- Give each player a national team name, Argentina, Ghana, Italy... (1 player each country or more if playing 2v2, 3v3.. etc)
- Choose one 'country' to go in goal (Share GK duties in 2v2).
- All other countries to play against each other in a free-for-all
- 'country' with highest score wins the world cup, second, third etc.
- Repeat until each country has been in goal.
In the traditional playground game once you have scored you sit out until the last player to score is eliminated from the game. Continue eliminating players until there is a single winner.
I also teach the traditional format as it is one that they will play themselves in school and their free time. I adapted it to the first model to ensure that all players stay on the pitch during training sessions. Both formats have their benefits and failings.
